Liam McShane is the younger brother of Dorothy "Ace" McShane, a companion of the seventh Doctor. He's fairly straight laced; he doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs, or engage in promiscuous sex. He attends Church every Sunday, and believes wholeheartedly in a higher power.

He first met his sister in 1997 on the island of Ibiza. Liam and Dorothy were separated when their father, having caught their mother cheating on him, took Liam from his crib and ran away from London. He'd have taken Dorothy, too, but she was away at school.

Liam spent most of his life with no knowledge of his sister, until his father, at death's door, told him everything. When Liam and Dorothy met, she wanted nothing to do with him. But a shared adventure with some "angels" from another dimension made her realize how important her brother could be in her life.

After Dorothy went back to her travels with the Doctor, Liam returned to London with his friend Cat. It's been a year since he's seen his sister, and his life has returned to its normal order.

Until one day he wakes up with a strange communicator on his bed side table.
